Window Installation Timeline

What Is the Timeframe for Your Window Installation Project?

What Is the Timeframe for Your Window Installation Project?

“How long will this take?” is one of the first questions homeowners ask. The honest answer surprises people: the on-site installation is fast, but manufacturing your custom windows sets the overall timeframe. Here’s a realistic, stage-by-stage breakdown.

Stage 1: Estimate and consultation (day 1)

It starts with a free in-home visit. We measure every opening, discuss your goals, and provide a written, itemized estimate. Expect about 45–90 minutes.

Stage 2: Final measurement and order (week 1)

Once you approve the estimate, we take precise final measurements and place the manufacturing order. Because windows are made to order, accuracy here prevents delays later.

Stage 3: Manufacturing (weeks 1–4)

This is the longest stage. Your windows are custom-built to your exact openings. Standard sizes are faster; custom shapes, specialty glass, and bay or bow units take longer. Typically 2–4 weeks.

Stage 4: Installation (1–2 days)

When your windows arrive, we schedule installation. A skilled crew installs roughly 8–15 windows per day, so most homes are done in one or two days. We work room by room — each window is only open briefly during the swap. See exactly how installation works.

Stage 5: Final walkthrough and cleanup (same day)

Before we leave, we test every window, clean the glass, haul away the old units and debris, and review care and warranty. Any permit inspections are scheduled as needed.

What affects the timeframe

  • Custom and specialty orders add manufacturing time.
  • Rotted or damaged frames require repair before installation.
  • Difficult access (upper stories, tight spaces) adds labor.
  • Weather — Georgia’s rain or extreme heat can occasionally shift outdoor work.

The realistic total

For most homes: 3 to 6 weeks from signed estimate to finished install, with the actual on-site work being just one or two days. Planning a month ahead ensures your new windows are in before the summer heat or the holidays.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a window installation project take from start to finish?

From signed estimate to finished install is typically 3 to 6 weeks. Most of that is manufacturing your custom windows; the on-site installation itself is usually just one or two days.

How many windows can be installed in a day?

A skilled crew installs roughly 8 to 15 windows per day depending on size and complexity, so most whole-home projects finish in one to two days.

What slows down a window installation project?

Custom or specialty orders take longer to manufacture; rotted frames need repair before installation; and difficult access or severe weather can extend outdoor work.
